Clear Evidence
Against Alcohol

Raising awareness of the multi-dimensional impacts of alcohol.

You Booze You Lose is an initiative committed to factual, evidence-based public health education regarding alcohol consumption in Australia, and around the world. Our mission is to leverage and amplify empirical data with the backing of government, and the power of influential voices. We aim to inform and encourage responsible alcohol use, addressing the critical public health issue of alcohol misuse.

Clear evidence from trusted sources helps people change their beliefs by assessing the facts for themselves. We aim to present a range of data, and explore a range of communication modes and channels from simple infographics to long-form filmmaking.

Open Letter to the Australian Department of Health

Dear Mr. Blair Comley PSM, Secretary of the Department of Health and Aged Care,

We at the "You Booze You Lose" Initiative are dedicated to launching a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting informed and responsible alcohol consumption. Our vision is grounded in disseminating factual, empirically supported information about the risks associated with excessive alcohol use.

Our Proposal

Rationale

Our campaign emphasizes the use of robust, empirical data to underline the health risks of alcohol misuse. We aim to present clear, data-driven information to educate the public, empowering them to make informed decisions. Addressing this public health priority, we seek to reduce alcohol-related harm in the community, including health complications and societal issues.

Alignment with the National Preventive Health Strategy

In aligning our campaign with the National Preventive Health Strategy, we emphasize a systemic, sustainable approach that mirrors the Strategy's long-term model for health improvement. Our focus extends to enhancing health literacy, ensuring our materials are accessible and culturally appropriate for diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We advocate a participatory method, engaging communities in the co-design of our health messages. Collaboration with healthcare professionals is key, as we aim to promote the dissemination of credible, comprehensible health information. Our efforts are grounded in empirical data and evidence-based strategies, supporting the development of a national health literacy strategy to broaden the impact of health education across Australia. We are dedicated to the continuous monitoring and evaluation of our campaign's effectiveness, ensuring alignment with national health objectives.

Campaign Goals

Our goals are to raise public awareness about the health consequences of excessive alcohol use, foster an environment conducive to responsible consumption, and contribute to the reduction of alcohol-related incidents and health issues within the Australian community.
